Nicaragua shares borders with Costa Rica and Honduras. The busiest Nicaraguan land entry/exit point is at Peñas Blancas, on the southern border with Costa Rica. Los Chiles in Costa Rica provides a water crossing further east, to San Carlos on the Río San Juan. The two main border crossings with Honduras in the north, meanwhile, are at Guasaule and El Espino and Las Manos, with the latter providing the quickest access to Tegucigalpa.
After political unrest in 2018, Nicaragua is once again on track to become one of the safest Central American countries, including Costa Rica and Panama. However, Nicaragua is still one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere and tourists should use common sense when traveling in the country.
The hotel is located out of the way of major cities, and has 24/7 security surveillance including night guards who roam the property from sundown till sun up.

Nicaragua is a tropical paradise nearly all year-round. There really is no wrong time to visit. However, depending on how you plan to spend your time here, certain times maybe better than others:
December – April: Nicaragua’s dry season. It’s typically sunny and a perfect 75 – 85 F degrees (25 –29 C) on the beach. There are a few light showers in the morning and maybe a handful of breezy days. This is a great time for exploring colonial cities, nearby beaches, volcanoes or the country’s lush jungle reserves. Our beach’s breaks are mellow and consistent at this time of year, which is perfect if you’re learning to surf.
May – August: Nicaragua’s wet season officially begins at the end of May. However, it’s still pleasantly warm with a few more morning showers lasting only an hour or two, but nothing that would stop you enjoying your trip.
September – Mid-November: Heavy rain can disrupt travel, but if you’re staying long-term, it’s a great time to recommit to a daily yoga practice, meditate and surf big swells.
El Tránsito has great, consistent waves all throughout the year which makes it a great surfing destination at any time or season. From November to early March, you’ll find mellow ocean waves perfect for beginners, longboarders, and intermediate surfers. The smallest swells are usually in January and February and are typically knee to head high.
The “swell” season (March to October) draws experienced surfers to El Tránsito for its chest and overhead waves. The rainiest months are September and October. The biggest Swells are April through June.
Average Ocean Temperature is around 85 F (29 C) . January and February are coolest months of the year.
Average Air Temperature is 85 – 95 F (29 – 35 C). The hottest months are April and May.
Managua Airport: 55km from the village, or about one hour and ten minutes taxi ride away.
Costa Rican Liberia Airport: 5+ hours due to the border crossing.
Granada: 2 hours
Rivas: 3 hours
Ometepe: 3.5 hours
León: 1 hour
