unforgettable surfing experiences
El Tránsito’s pristine beaches and uncrowded waters attract surfers of all stripes, from seasoned riders to beginners looking to catch their first wave. Our mile-long stretch of shoreline has four breaks (Mainbreak, Pistols, Pangas, and left point break La Vuelta) and consistent off-shore winds. Alive is the only hotel on the beach positioned directly in front of La Vuelta, offering surfers some of the best access on the beach. There’s no need for a boat ride or car trip. Just step onto the beach and you’re there. Other surf spots close by are Miramar, Salinas Grandes, Puerto Sandino, Meatgrinders, Playa Hermosa, Asunchillo — and if you’re an adrenaline junkie, world-class barrels are only a quick boat ride from the hotel.
The water typically stays warm year round. From March to October, the “swell” season draws experienced surfers to El Tránsito for its chest and overhead waves. From November to early March, you’ll find mellow ocean waves perfect for beginners, longboarders, and intermediate surfers. Whatever the time of year or your experience level, our local surf teacher, has your back.
