At Alive Beach House, we take care to minimize our environmental footprint. Because our hotel sits so close to the ocean, our primary environmental concern is leakage from the hotel onto the beach and into the ocean. We installed an energy-free bio filtration septic system which biologically breaks down wastewater and turns it into viable compost for nearby trees and our own garden. We also compost all organic kitchen waste, making fertile soil which is largely missing in our area.
Much of the building materials in the hotel – the ceiling on the second floor common area, the floor of the roof top palapa, the walls of our restaurant – are made from recycled materials. Furniture and decorations are often made locally, from recycled or biodegradable materials.
We use a high quality clay filtration system for drinking water so that we can minimize the plastic bottle use which is common in the area. We strive to use as many locally and sustainably sourced ingredients in our restaurant as possible, which supports our neighboring fishermen and farmers, and also cuts down on emissions from shipping products internationally.
Additionally, we are committed to reducing our environmental footprint by harnessing solar energy. More than 70% of our hotel’s energy consumption is powered by solar panels, allowing us to operate more sustainably while taking advantage of Nicaragua’s abundant sunshine. This initiative helps us decrease reliance on non-renewable energy sources and contributes to a cleaner, greener future.
